East Riding College has developed a thriving partnership with the east coast's premier conference and events venue following its multi-million-pound refurbishment.
The Spa Bridlington, which is owned and run by East Riding of Yorkshire Council, reopened last summer after a £20m redevelopment and attracts major conference customers and sporting events to the resort.
One of the key areas in the investment was the installation of state-of-the-art kitchen equipment, new and improved bar areas and a café bar with panoramic sea views.
Since the re-opening, the College has been brought in to assist The Spa with the delivery of training programmes which meet the needs of individuals as well as providing flexibility for The Spa, ensuring staff have the necessary skills and confidence to provide top quality catering and hospitality.
As the revamped venue prepares for its second summer season, assessors are continuing to deliver flexible workplace training such as the NVQ level two in Multi-Skilled Hospitality and the NVQ level two in Team Leading.
John-Lee Thompson, senior catering manager for leisure and tourism at the council, is keen to ensure that the partnership works both ways and has agreed to give talks to catering and hospitality students about working in a busy and demanding environment, sharing his experiences from within the hospitality industry.
John-Lee said: "Our partnership with East Riding College has helped us to ensure we have highly skilled staff that can provide the standard of food, drink and service our clients require.
"The College delivers the training which fits around our working schedules and we are really seeing the benefits to the services we provide.
"I am also very keen to continue developing our partnership with the College and hope to expand the training provided to other venues which offer similar services to The Spa as well as working more closely with the students."
East Riding College's Bridlington campus has a busy Catering and Hospitality section which provides as lot of the qualified students for the resort's hotels, guest houses, cafes and restaurants.
The College also does a lot of work with employers on Food Safety, Catering and Hospitality training, with the The Spa, and subsequently the East Riding of Yorkshire Council being a major client.
Sue Robson, head of curriculum area for Leisure and Hospitality at the College, said: "Our relationship with The Spa has been very positive for the College.
"It's great to be associated with such a high profile venue and I hope we will continue to work together for many years to come."
