College life is very different to school.
There are no registrations, no assemblies and no recognised break times. You will have far more free time to study on your own and you will be able to come and go from the campus as you please. With these new rights come new responsibilities. You will be expected to attend your classes and do your work without supervision. Your time at East Riding College will be exciting and interesting. To help you make the most of your course and your time at College, we provide a wide range of services and facilities
Enrichment
Enrichment is about taking part in recreational activities which are not included in your course and which are available to all students.
Many will give you a chance to meet new people and get involved with College life. You will also have the opportunity to do things you wouldn't do as part of your course. Don't forget the skills you learn outside your studies are just as important and relevant when it comes to getting a job.
All of these opportunities will be explained to you at your induction. Enrichment activities include camping, climbing, football, netball, rugby, white water rafting, sailing, jet skiing, orienteering and motor cross.
Study visits
Learning is not just about studying in a classroom - it's also about seeing what life is like in the world of work and experiencing it for yourself.
Many students have the opportunity to go on study visits for a day or for longer periods. Some of our students have visited Paris, Amsterdam, Barcelona and Rome in the past few years.
Others have benefited from visiting new places and learning from new experiences closer to home.
Work experience
We want our students to have the experience to back up their qualifications. This will make you far more attractive to potential employers.
Work experience is the best way of doing this. You may get the chance to work in a company doing jobs that are relevant to your course or career choices. This will give you a real taste of the job and practical experience that will help you in your coursework.
All students who attend a placement will be required to complete an enhanced disclosure through the Criminal Records Bureau.
Students' union
Students' unions operate in almost every college in the country. The students' union at East Riding College is involved in arranging clubs and societies, trips, competitions and nights out. It is affiliated to the National Union of Students (NUS), and is run by elected officers. Don't forget to join the NUS in order to get your membership card which will give you discount on clothes, travel, music and eating out.
Student reps
East Riding College has a good network of student representatives from every course. If you are passionate about having your say, you can represent your fellow students by becoming a student rep.
