Apprentice Barber

Summary

This exclusive gentleman’s grooming establishment in the heart of Beverley offers an enthusiastic, driven individual the chance to train as a barber. No prior knowledge needed- just a can-do attitude, desire to learn, well-groomed appearance, and excellent customer service skills. We’ll teach you the rest.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

 

  • Legal, organisational and health and safety requirements relevant to barbering businesses.
  • How to maintain effective and safe methods of working and infection control when completing barbering services.
  • The types of incidents, problems and accidents that can occur in a barbershop, the actions to take and your responsibilities for reporting.
  • How to complete and implement a health and safety risk assessment.
  • Work related injury and ill health associated with barbering (e.g. physical injuries, posture, disorders, disease, viruses, blood, contact or airborne, dermatitis).
  • Employment rights and responsibilities.
  • Products, tools and equipment used in barbering services and legal organisational requirements for safe use and storage.
  • Barbering professionalism, values, industry codes of conduct, best practice and ethics.
  • Barbershop culture, history and types of barbershops.
  • How to use and promote working methods that promote environmental and sustainable working practices.
  • The role and function of the front of house or reception area in the barbershop business (services, bookings, payments, retail and sales).
  • The benefits and drawbacks of using social media and how social media can be used to promote the business.
  • Client care principles and practices.
  • How to actively promote and respect equality, diversity and inclusivity (confidentiality, discretion, welfare, limitations).

  • How to shampoo, treat and condition the hair and scalp safely.
  • The cutting methodology, techniques, tools and equipment required to create a range of barbering looks, different effects, distribution of weight, balance and shape to create precision and personalised looks.
  • The techniques and methodology behind creating basic outlines and detailing in hair.
  • The techniques and methodology behind designing and creating a range of facial hair shapes, tapered beard lines, beard outlines and moustaches.
  • The techniques and methodology behind preparing for and carrying out different shaving services.
  • The methods, benefits and effects of facial massage.
  • The effects of close clippering and shaving on the hair and skin (e.g. cool, heat, sensation, reaction, immediate and long term effects).
  • The science behind drying and finishing hair.
  • The techniques and methodology behind drying, styling and finishing hair using barbering techniques.
  • Complementary male grooming services, their benefits and drawbacks.
  • Evaluation techniques.

Applicants must have their own transport or reliable means of travel, as public transport in the area is limited. Fluency in English is also essential for this role.

About the provider

Auctioneers of all manner of items from cars to jewellery. Weekly auctions online and bidders in person. We have been auctioneers for 40 years but in 2021 moved to new premises in Goole by the canal and marina. We offer around 500 lots per week in each auction, may be antiques, washing machines, motorbikes, collectables, furniture, clocks, cameras, clothing. Once sold on auction day, buyers come in to pay and collect, or they may pay online, have items posted or use a courier to collect. Keeping all the records accurately is key. Spicers don’t own anything, we only sell on behalf of ‘vendors’ people who need or want to sell items safely and securely, taking the stress out of selling from their own or someone else’s home.

Summary

What you’ll do at work

Key Responsibilities:

As an Apprentice Administrative Assistant, you will be an integral part of the school’s administrative team. Under the guidance of senior staff, you will support the smooth running of school operations with a variety of clerical, administrative, and financial duties:

Organisation:

  • Provide routine administrative support such as filing, photocopying, and managing emails
  • Assist with reception duties, including answering telephone calls, welcoming visitors, and signing them in
  • Help manage pupil welfare, including looking after sick students and liaising with parents
  • Maintain a tidy and clutter-free administrative area and staff rooms

Administration:

  • Maintain both manual and computerised records
  • Assist with school registers, meal records, and other general administrative duties
  • Operate office equipment such as photocopiers and computers
