French Improvers 1

To further develop the skills of speaking, understanding, reading and writing in the language to achieve the standard of a good GCSE pass.  Learn how to give descriptions, opinions and extra information and to cope with minor complications in everyday situations.

What will I study?

A relaxed, informal course for improvers.  The course will cover the skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing but the emphasis will be on practical application with lots of opportunities to practise speaking and understanding.  Grammar will include past, present and future tenses and topics may include essentials, general information, travel, accommodation, food and drink, shopping, services and emergencies.  Learners will have the opportunity to suggest other topics which meet their needs and interests.

How will I be assessed?

This is a non-accredited course with no exam at the end, but the tutor will monitor progress and give feedback

How will the course be delivered?

There will be a wide variety of learning activities designed to develop practical language skills in a stimulating environment.  Thy will include interactive games, listening comprehension, tutor presentations, pair and small group work.

Entry requirements

Some prior knowledge is essential.  Knowledge may have been gained on a recent beginners’ course or at school but not taken as far as GCSE level.

The tutor will want to find out as much as possible about why you want to learn and what you already know in order to plan a suitable programme.  The content of the course will be discussed and you will be given further details about course materials and other learning resources.  Any relevant paperwork will be discussed and completed at this session.  Please bring a notebook and pen.
