GCSE Biology

The course is designed to provide students with the opportunity to achieve a Grade C in a GCSE Science required for teaching and nursing and for other progression.  It is the same course that students study in Y10 and 11 in school, if they study single science Biology.

 

This course will be held at our Beverley campus, Monday, 12 September, 6 to 9pm, Course Code PF064/1  or the Bridlington campus Tuesday, 13 September, 9am to 12pm, Course Code PS043/1

What will I study?

You will study 7 units covering the following topics:

  • Cell biology
  • Organisation (body systems)
  • Infection and response
  • Respiration and photosynthesis
  • Homeostasis
  • Genetics
  • Ecology

 

You will also complete some practical work

How will I be assessed?

There are 2 exams in May/June, both are 1 hour and 45 minutes. 

  • Paper 1 covers units 1-4 and practical work
  • Paper 2 covers units 5-7 and practical work

There is no coursework

Entry requirements

No formal requirements, but students need to discuss their previous studies with the tutor before enrolment

What next?

Many students require a science GCSE for entry to university or to continue onto teacher training, PGCE or Access to HE.

Many go to university to study health sciences or nursing.
