Level Three BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport Coaching, Development and Fitness

This course is for anyone interested in employment in coaching or sports leadership or who wishes to progress to industry-recognized qualifications or degree level study in a related discipline. The core units provide a broad overview of the coaching and fitness industry while the optional units build on this by providing a more in-depth exploration of specific techniques. This course is equally suitable for school leavers and mature students.

This course is available as part of a full-time study programme for 16 to 18 year olds, and as a part time course for adults aged 19 and over.  Please ask learner services for details.

  • Exercise, health and lifestyle
  • Psychology for sports performance

  • Physical education and the care of children and young people
  • Sport as a business
  • Work experience in sport
  • Analysis of sports performance

How will I be assessed?

This course is assessed practically and through written coursework. Coursework and practical assessments are based on realistic workplace situations.

Entry requirements

  • Four GCSEs grade A* to C/4-9 to include English and Maths
  • Or level two diploma (merit)
  • Or first diploma (merit)
  • Or NVQ level two
  • Or equivalent

What next?

You could go on to employment in the sport and leisure industry obtain a sports apprenticeship or progress onto a higher education course. If you decide to go onto higher education you could take a degree in subjects such as sports studies, leisure management, sports coaching and teacher training or our Foundation Degree (FdSc) in Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences  or Foundation Degree in Leisure Management and BSc (Hons) Sports, Coaching and Health Sciences (Top-up) validated by the University of Hull.
