Level Two NVQ Diploma in Professional Cookery (Preparation and Cooking)

This course follows on from NVQ level one and helps you to practise and develop your skills in the kitchen, restaurant and bar.


What will I study?

  • Food preparation and cooking
  • Food and drink service
  • Food hygiene
  • Health and safety


You will achieve the following qualifications:

  • Level Two Diploma in Professional Cookery (Preparation and Cookery)
  • Level Two Award in Food Safety in Catering

How will I be assessed?

You will build a portfolio and complete short answer on-line questions.  Practical assessments are always completed in the restaurant or the production kitchen so that you are performing at the level required for industry.

Entry requirements

  • Four GCSEs grade D/3 and above
  • Or level one diploma
  • Or introductory diploma
  • Or NVQ level one
  • Or equivalent

Applications from mature students without the above qualifications are welcomed and will be considered on an individual basis.

What next?

You could get a job in the hospitality and catering industry, in Britain or abroad. You could work in a hotel, in a restaurant, in a public house, or a canteen. You may even work at sea or join the uniformed services. The hospitality and catering industry employs more people worldwide than any other industry so there are excellent  employment prospects.

However, many of our students enjoy the course and progress to our Level Three NVQ Diploma in Professional Catering Learners may also obtain a catering specific apprenticeship in the workplace.

Uniform will need to be purchased from the college supplier.

It is also advisable that learners purchase a practical cookery book to assist learning.
