College Teams Up With Gym So Learners Get Fit Fast!

3rd January 2006 10:09am - Return to press releases

East Riding College has successfully teamed up with local gym Cottingham Parks to deliver a new qualification, the Certificate in Exercise Studies. The course was delivered using specialised distance learning materials which 12 members of the gym worked through at their own pace. Andy Gray and Alex Riley, members of staff at Cottingham Parks, were trained by the college to support the learners throughout the programme.

The course consisted of three workbooks which gave the learners the knowledge they required to design their own exercise programme which they then undertook for 6 weeks. Morag and Philip Wharton were so enthusiastic about the course that they took it on holiday with them and completed one of the workbooks in a cottage in France! All of the learners successfully completed the course and Ron Frost said "The course was brilliant, I really enjoyed it. I used to be a Club Coach but ideas about exercise change all the time so the course brought me up-to-date."

Tristan Buttle, Cottingham Parks Manager said "The course worked very well and East Riding College consulted us from start to finish to ensure the course ran smoothly. We value our members and it is great when we are able to offer them something extra like this."

Cottingham Parks are having an open weekend on the 14th and 15th January and the first 50 people who join that weekend will get three months membership completely free! There will also be demonstration classes for people to view. For more information about membership of Cottingham Parks call 01482 846030.
