Local College Takes Learning Into Workplace

4th January 2006 8:56am - Return to press releases

East Riding College has successfully teamed up with local residential home, Westbourne Lodge, to deliver free IT training.  Initially Jackie Farrar, a Business Advisor from the college visited Westbourne Lodge to discuss training opportunities.  Although the manager was keen to pursue training she was unable to release lots of staff all at the same time to travel to the college for training.  Jackie worked with Westbourne Lodge to organise workshop style training that was delivered at the residential home in the dining room.  The tutor took laptops in each week and staff learned how to use Microsoft Word.  Ros Windley the tutor said "This training was ideal for staff as they dropped in to the sessions when they were free. They all seemed to really enjoy updating their skills."

Julie Jackson, one of the learners said "Each day we have to manually write down our daily records in large folders.  This course will eventually help us to type up the records on to the computer which will save a lot of time and space."
