Andy Thomas received a City & Guilds Medal of Excellence at an award ceremony in London on 17 March for his outstanding performance in the education and training sector.
Andy, a mature student from Beverley studied part-time on the City & Guilds 7407 Stage 1 Teaching Certificate at East Riding College. He works with students who have a variety of learning support needs in the Humberside region. Andy has now progressed to Stage 2.
Penny Kealey, course tutor also received a certificate in recognition of the high standards of teaching and training at East Riding College.
Judges comments were "The work by Andy Thomas was of a very high quality and demonstrated a high level of academic scholarship. The most pleasing areas were those which showed not just an understanding of educational theories but their applications in practice. This qualification is about teaching and Andy demonstrated assessing individual needs and putting his skills into practice".
City and Guilds, the UK's leading Award body for work-related qualifications has been awarding medals annually since 1879. The Medals for Excellence programme rewards talented people who have displayed exceptional standards as a lecturer, learner or external verifier with City and Guilds, and whose achievements stand out from the crowd.
