Brickwork Students Get Hands on Awareness of Fire Safety
27th April 2006 1:46pm - Return to press releases
NVQ Level 2 Brickwork students at the Carnaby site of East Riding College have recently attended a morning at the Bridlington Fire Station to gain hands-on awareness of fire safety.
The visit to the Fire Station saw the students being dressed up in uniforms and taking part in a real-life simulated exercise where they had to find and retrieve pretend bodies out of a smoked filled building. They were also taught about the use of fire extinguishers and took part in a team building exercise.
Roger Curry, course tutor said "As part of their brickwork course, students have to be aware of fire safety. This has been a great opportunity for the students to not only learn about fire safety but also build on their own communication and respect for local fire fighters. The team building exercise's they have taken part in could be life saving in the event of a fire. It has been a fantastic morning for everyone concerned and we thank the local fire brigade for allowing us to visit".
