Kyle Winter, a student at East Riding College, Carnaby Site.

Kyle Winter,16, from Driffield is studying at East Riding College on the Motorcycle Level 1 course at the Carnaby site, Bridlington. He is also studying Welding as an additional subject for part of his main programme of study.

Working with Kyle on a one to one basis in practical and theory sessions is Rodney Smith, a Learning Support Assistant. He observed Kyle?s physical difficulties with the welding. Kyle's limited movement ability was making it hard to weld in a straight line. Rodney is a dedicated and enthusiastic member of staff and wanted to help Kyle further. He gave Kyle?s problem some consideration and thought about how he could improve Kyle?s technique. Rodney came up with an idea and designed and built a piece of equipment that would assist Kyle, enabling him to weld in a straight line.

Kyle said, ?I am very pleased with the piece of equipment, as it makes it easier for me to keep the welder in a straight line. My confidence has increased. I am grateful to Rodney for designing and building this and giving me all the tuition, encouragement and support that he has.?
