An East Riding College student has earned the chance to work in the state-of-the-art new kitchens at The Spa Bridlington during the grand opening week following its ?19.5m refurbishment.
And 16-year-old Lauren Hines will be presented with a certificate for her efforts by superstar chef Gordon Ramsay, who will be attending an event during the opening week.
Lauren, from Bridlington, began studying for an NVQ level two in Hospitality and Catering in September 2007.
After completing the course in June she will continue at the College on the two-year NVQ level three in Hospitality and Catering.
Lauren has been selected to represent the College at the grand opening at The Spa in June because of her personal growth during the course and overall contribution to the course.
She and her course tutor Les Cage visited The Spa?s kitchens on Tuesday, May 13, and met The Spa?s head chef, John Spence.
Lauren will work in the kitchens on June 2 and 3 to help prepare the gala dinner for the grand opening on June 3.
Officials from The Spa have arranged for Gordon Ramsay to present a certificate to Lauren to acknowledge her efforts.
Lauren said: ?I?m really excited to have the chance to work in a real kitchen and to do it during the opening week of The Spa is even better.
?Gordon Ramsay is one of the chefs that I most admire and feel really privileged to have this opportunity.
?My ambition is to travel the world and experiment with cuisines from different countries.?
Catering lecturer Les Cage said: ?Lauren began at the college last September and was extremely shy.
?Now she?s a lot more confident in herself and has made lots of new friends at college.
?She was also awarded the department?s student of the month in January for her hard work and contributions to the course and other people.?
John-Lee Thompson, senior catering manager at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: ?Congratulations to Lauren on her achievement. The council?s leisure catering section looks forward to working with her during the Business Week dinner at The Spa Bridlington and with the East Riding College in the future.
?This is an exciting time for everyone and I hope Lauren continues to grow in confidence after meeting Gordon.?
