How to Become an Effective Manager

28th August 2008 10:12am - Return to press releases

A new foundation degree course which will equip students with the skills to become effective managers will begin at East Riding College next month.

The Foundation Degree in Business Management is a three-year part-time course with a range of study options so people can attend weekly classes during or outside working hours.

The course, validated by the University of Hull, features 12 modules on subjects such as marketing, finance, management, decision-making and human resources.

Ann Churnin, Business lecturer at East Riding College, said: ?This course will give students the theoretical grounding they need to understand the principles of management at all levels.

?Combined with their experience at work and a number of work-based study modules, it will help them to become an effective manager in a range of professions.?

People who take the course will be supported by a personal tutor who will ensure they make the necessary progress.

All applicants will be required to be in work so they can complete the work-based modules.

They will ideally have completed a level three qualification equivalent to an A level, though applications are welcome from people who have not studied at this level if they can demonstrate significant work experience.

All applicants will attend an interview with the course tutor.

Fees for foundation degrees are lower than for full degrees and the costs can be spread over a longer period. Financial support may also be available.
