Help to get into work or training

30th January 2009 4:14pm - Return to press releases

A new, free course which aims to help adults who have little experience of work or training will begin at East Riding College in Bridlington in February.
The 14-week Reach Out for Training and Work programme will enable participants to gain the confidence they need to apply for jobs or to improve their skills with further courses.
Starting on February 12, it will also increase their motivation to move towards work or learning and help to address any practical barriers to learning and work, such as financial considerations, childcare and travel.

Nick Wilson-Birch, the College's European Social Fund project co-ordinator, said: "People can easily get in a rut when they have been out of work or education for some time and it can be difficult to get back your confidence and motivation.
"This free short course is the perfect stepping stone to employment or further courses, and could be a lifeline for many people during this difficult economic period."

Reach Out for Training and Work is open to unemployed adults aged 19 and above who do not have a full level two qualification or have one which is outdated or unsuitable.
It is aimed at people who live in Bridlington, though people who live close by may be considered.
Participants will attend East Riding College's St Mary's Walk site in Bridlington from 10am to 3pm on Thursdays and Fridays, though there is flexibility.
Vocational options are available to allow people to tailor the programme to an area of work or learning they are interested in.
There may also be opportunities for work experience and work placements, and an allowance for crèche facilities is available for those meeting a number of criteria.
Anyone who is interested in the programme should call Nick Wilson-Birch on 0845 120 0037. Ten participants will be enrolled in the first intake, though the course will run twice more by March 2010
