New website makes information easy to find
27th February 2009 12:47pm - Return to press releases
East Riding College has launched a new website as part of its drive to improve the information available to prospective students.
The site was developed over six months with Hull-based multimedia firm Streamline Media and has now gone live.
Among the key aims of the site were to make it as simple as possible to navigate, easy to read and visually appealing.
It contains information on the more traditional courses offered by the College, such as full-time, part-time and higher education courses, and Apprenticeships.
It also has a section dedicated to East Riding College's work with employers, which is becoming increasingly important as part of the national agenda to increase skill levels in the workforce.
There is an area covering students' work and projects, including video and still image uploads, and another giving details about the College, its staff and other information.
One of the key elements of the development of the site is a "content management system" which allows staff at the College to add content, without the need for IT expertise.
Matthew Croshaw, marketing and communications manager for the College, said: "We wanted our new website to be easy to find your way around, without masses of pages and reams of content no-one ever reads.
"We've kept things to a minimum so people can find what they want quickly and simply, whether they're experienced on the internet or a bit of a novice.
"The way the website has been developed allows us to update it regularly, so there's always something new for people to look at, and offers us huge potential for development in the future."
Peter Kemp, managing director of Streamline Media, said: "Working alongside East Riding College has allowed us to develop a website which looks clean and simple to web users but is supported by a complex and innovative system.
"We have concentrated on accessibility and complying with disability discrimination regulations, engaging the young and old in a great experience every time they visit the site.
"The custom-built content management system allows great scope for future development, and currently gives East Riding College staff the ability to edit every single element."
