Students' big event for Dove House Hospice
5th February 2009 10:17am - Return to press releases
East Riding College business students are appealing for auction donations as part of their fundraising efforts for Dove House Hospice.
The Beverley-based year-two BTEC National Diploma students are organising a charity ball and auction for up to 300 people to raise funds for and awareness of the Hull-based charity.
It will be held in the Kingston Suite at the KC Stadium, in Hull, on Saturday, April 25, from 7.30pm until 1am.
As part of the event, there will be an auction of items and promises. Donations already received include a ride in a Ferrari F430 Spider, a Dolce and Gabbana handbag and a chauffeur for two nights.
Event spokesman Louis Howarth, 17, said: "It's really exciting to be involved in organising an event of this scale for this incredible charity.
"We would really appreciate it if people and businesses could donate items and promises which would attract high bids in this fundraising auction."
Items the students are appealing for include restaurant meals, beauty treatments, designer clothes, collectibles, memorabilia, limousine rides and promises of services.
Lecturer Ellen Smuts said: "The students are doing a great job of bringing everything together and I'm sure this will be a wonderful fundraiser for Dove House Hospice.
"This will be a very professional event and we're hoping people and businesses will support their efforts by making generous donations for the auction."
The students have held a series of events to raise working capital for the project, including the deposit for the venue.
Tickets cost £25 per person, to include a three-course meal and disco, and go on sale at the end of February.
