Beef up your career prospects in the sports industry

People who want to boost their career prospects in the sports industry can learn essential skills and theory with a new foundation degree at East Riding College.
The Foundation Degree in Sport, Health and Exercise Science will run for the first time from September, lasting two years, and will run at the College's Beverley and Bridlington campuses.
It is aimed at people with an interest in competitive sport, exercise and coaching for recreation and health.
This could be those who already work in the sports and fitness industry who want to improve their chances of advancement and those who want to get into the industry.
The course is relevant to all kinds of jobs, including personal trainers, fitness co-ordinators, sports coaches, masseurs, teachers.
Modules include: functional anatomy and physiology; biomechanics and motion analysis in sport; the treatment and rehabilitation of injuries in sport; sport and exercise massage; and nutritional strategies for sports performance. 

Course tutor Paul Smith said: "This new course allows learners to develop their knowledge through a range of exercise, science and coaching based modules.
"The aim is to demonstrate how the applied nature of sports science and coaching can influence performance and fitness.
"This is a fascinating subject and we are looking forward to running this course for the first time from September."

A one-off taster session related to the Foundation Degree in Sport, Health and Exercise Science will be held on April 27, also at the Gallows Lane campus. This will be followed by a series of bite size sessions, starting on Tuesday, April 28. 
The course is one of 15 higher education courses run by East Riding College. Most are foundation degrees, which are similar to standard degrees but with a more work-related focus.
The Foundation Degree in Sport, Health and Exercise Science was developed in partnership with Doncaster College.
Learners will be able to complete the foundation degree at East Riding College and on completion have the option of continuing their academic development to degree level.
