Brave Emma raises £500 in sponsored head shave
14th October 2010 1:32pm - Return to press releases
Hairdressing student Emma Leah raised £500 by having her head shaved at East Riding College's Bridlington campus salon.
Her fellow student Katie Smithson did the honours with the clippers as Emma raised the money for Evelina's Children's Hospital at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital in London in aid of her niece, Scarlett, who died aged just 30 days.
Emma, 27, from Bridlington, said: "I was a bit nervous about having my head shaved but I feel really proud now that I've had it done.
"I'm so pleased to have raised as much money for the Evelina in memory of my niece, Scarlett Lily. Thank you to everybody who sponsored me."
Emma underwent the close crop at the start of a lesson, with 20 students and tutors cheering her on.
Tutor Tracy Ellerington said: "Emma was really brave and she was well supported by her classmates, and it's great news that she has raised so much for such a good cause.
"We were all wondering how she would look in the end but it really suits her!"
