Photo. Preparation for Worldskills showcase.jpgEast Riding College students have secured an invitation to perform at the prestigious WorldSkills 2011 showcase event in London in October.
The group of fashion, media and hair and beauty students - attending both the Beverley and Bridlington campuses - are joining together to put on a mixed media show in front of thousands of spectators at the ExCeL exhibition and conference centre in London.
Their performance is a catwalk show featuring fashion students' garments make from recycled materials, with models whose hair and make-up has been created by hair and beauty students. Media students will be filming live footage and projecting this over layered  interviews and background images.  Called "the Art of Recycling", their showcase will take place on October 7.

Gareth Sykes, head of creative arts, media and music at the College, said: "It's a real coup to secure a spot in the WorldSkills showcase event and our students are working really hard to make a success of it.
"The trip to London and the opportunity to perform in front of potentially thousands of people will be an amazing experience for the students."

WorldSkills London 2011 will be the world's largest, international skills competition with young people from across the globe competing to be the best of the best in their chosen skill. The competition takes place at ExCeL London from October 5 to 8.
About 150,000 expected visitors will see 1,000 competitors from 50 countries and regions competing in 45 skill areas over four exciting days of competition.
