Motor vehicle students litter pickingA group of students from East Riding College have been helping to improve the local environment in Bridlington as part of their engineering course.
The eight learners, who are working towards their Level One Diploma in Motor Cycle Maintenance, organised a litter pick and planted a tree as part of their “Personal and Social Development”, an addition to their main course which covers the more general skills that employers look for.

The students’ lecturer, Ian Maggs, said: “This project came about after we had discussed issues relating to environmental awareness, requiring the learners to participate in two activities that would help to improve the environment in their local area.
“The students decided that a litter pick would help to tidy up the surroundings nearby and collected several bags of rubbish. They also thought it would be worthwhile to plant a willow tree to replace one in the College grounds which had died.”
Bridlington student Andrew McManus, 18, said: “It was very interesting to get involved in these two projects and to learn more about the environment by doing them.”
