Junior school pupils have had a taste of working in construction during a special visit to East Riding College.
More than 60 youngsters aged 10 and 11 made the trip from Filey Junior School to the College’s campus in St Mary’s Walk, Bridlington, to sample a variety of crafts.
They tried their hand at bricklaying, joinery, plastering and rendering, stone carving and general DIY skills in the College’s dedicated construction workshops, and made their own key rings to take home as a memento of the day.

Martin, 11, said: “I really enjoyed stone carving. The tutors were very helpful and I learnt a lot from them.”
Lucy, also 11, said: “It was a fun morning at the College and it was nice to make something that we could take home with us.”

Head of construction Ian Frear said: “The pupils really enjoyed their visit and very enthusiastic as they tried out the various activities that we had laid on for them.
“Some of them showed a natural flair for working in the construction industry so hopefully we’ll be welcoming them back to East Riding College in five years’ time.”

East Riding College runs construction courses from level one to level three in disciplines including brickwork, carpentry and joinery, plastering, stonemasonry, woodcarving and general DIY skills.
