12th August 2013 11:34am - Return to press releases

Work on a new £220,000 multi-use games area (MUGA) at East Riding College’s Bridlington campus will begin next week.
The facility, which is due for completion in October, will have a playing surface covering 1,789 square metres and will be used for a wide variety of sports.
It will accommodate three tennis courts, two five-a-side football pitches and three basketball courts, and will also be marked out for netball, volleyball, handball, hockey and cricket practice.
The facility will be used by students on sports courses as part of their practical and coaching sessions and by others in their extra-curricular activities, as well as by the community and sports clubs.
Head of sport Paul Smith said: “The development is very exciting for students coming to East Riding College from September, especially those on sports courses.
“We’re looking forward to providing new sessions and courses for students and the community in tennis, cricket, basketball, futsal and other sports.”
He added: “Students will be very excited to be taking part in sport after the Olympics last year and more recently the success of Andy Murray at Wimbledon, Chris Froome in the Tour de France, the British Lions and the England cricket team.
“This is the first time our students have had such an excellent facility on campus so it’s not just sports students that will benefit and our sport maker, Matt Jeffery, will be running lots of activities for everyone to enjoy.”
Among those to take advantage of the MUGA will be year students on the Level Three Extended Diploma in Sport Coaching, Development and Fitness and the new BSc (Hons) Sports, Coaching and Health Sciences (top-up).
The MUGA will have a multi-use tarmac surface and be enclosed by mesh fencing. It will be available for use by students but also for community groups and clubs for sports and activities for adults and children.
