29th September 2014 3:59pm - Return to press releases
Young people from the Bridlington area are invited to take part in a “have a go” sports event at East Riding College next week.
The event will take place on the sports pitches and multi-use games area on October 9 from 4pm to 6pm and is open to anyone aged 16 and over who is considering a career in the sports or leisure industry.
Sports included are basketball, netball, five-a-side football, rounders, volleyball, tag rugby and hockey.
Sports tutor Alex Bell said: “This will be a great event for anyone who’s thinking about starting a sports course or who just wants to have a go and see what we as a college have to offer.
“We have excellent, modern facilities at our Bridlington campus and a fantastic set of students so it’s also an opportunity to talk to them about their East Riding College experience.”
Beth Rounding, 18, who is studying towards the Level Three Extended Diploma in Sport, said: “We’re looking forward to organising and taking part in the ‘have a go’ event.
“Organising sports events is part of the course so it’s a great opportunity to put what we’ve learnt into action.
“The course includes practical sessions in all of these sports and we also get the chance to play for fun and competitively outside of the course.”
Matty Lock, 17, who is also studying towards the Level Three Extended Diploma in Sport, said: “Since joining the college in September 2013 I feel I have developed personally and with my academic studies too.
“I’m keen to let others know about the fantastic opportunities offered to learners both in and out of the classroom at the College.”
Matty is also a member of the College’s Help Crew. As part of his role helps with the extra-curricular activity programme at the College as well as attending his full-time course. He is planning to go to university in September 2015.
The College’s advice and guidance officers will also be available during the event for anyone who would like to come along to discuss options. For more information about the event or East Riding College courses, call 0845 120 0037.
