Want to get into construction? Try these free tasters

A free taster course for people who are interested in a career in construction is being held by East Riding College in Hull this month.
The sessions, which result in an Award in Basic Construction qualification, will take place in premises in Hedon Road from 9am to 3pm on three Fridays, starting May 22.
The course is designed for people with no previous experience but who want to enter the construction industry.
Learners will practice performing tasks such as fixing architrave, skirting boards, shelves, and ironmongery, using hand and power tools and fitting rainwater goods such as guttering.

Alex Sheldon, the College’s head of construction, said: “This course is a great opportunity for young people to get hands-on experience in some basic construction disciplines.
“As well as getting some practical know-how under your belt, it’s a chance to improve your chances of securing an apprenticeship or being accepted onto a college course in September.”

The taster sessions are free to school leavers and 17 and 18-year olds. For further information and enrolments, call 0845 120 0037.
