Tone up your fitness instruction skills

People who would like to work in the health and fitness industry can tone up their knowledge and skills with a new East Riding College Course this month.
The Level Two Certificate in Fitness Instruction starts at the Bridlington campus, in St Mary’s Walk, on Thursday, February 25.
Kate Harding, head of leisure and business at the College, said: “This course is ideal for people who want to take their first steps in the health and fitness industry and for those who already have a qualification in sport and leisure and who want to add another string to their bow.
“Over the course of 15 weeks, participants will learn essential theory and how to work with and motivate clients when you are working as a fitness instructor, personal trainer or a similar role.”
The course covers the following topics:
• Anatomy and physiology
• How to maintain health, safety and welfare in a variety of fitness environments
• How to programme safe and effective exercise
• The health benefits of physical activity
• The importance of healthy eating
• How to communicate with clients effectively
• How to motivate clients to adhere to an exercise programme
