Destination Beverley launched at East Riding College

The College was proud to host the launch of Destination Beverley, a new partnership between leading attractions and traders in the town.

At the launch the new logo for the initiative was unveiled.  It was designed by former East Riding College degree student graphic designer Matt Wildbore of Mattix Design.  Matt entered and won a competition to design the brand, which was open to students and alumni of the College.  He said, “It’s a logo that both I and Destination Beverley are really happy with, and seeing it rolled out across the town will be great.

“We went through a few different colour options for the logo, but I think a rich purple represented the town best, as purple is associated with affluence, loyalty, pride and royalty.

By creating a soft, rounded ‘b’ icon, I was able to represent the town in a friendly-looking logomark, which I think appeals to everyone. It is a large, clean brand and is accessible. At the centre of the ‘b’ icon, is a heart, symbolizing that Beverley is at the heart of what they do.

At the launch, Sally Iggulden, Destination Beverley’s chair and chief executive of Beverley Racecourse also introduced the organisation’s key themes of Visit, Spend, Stay and Enjoy.  The partnership’s mission is to increase visits and return visits to Beverley, to increase spending with the town’s businesses and attractions, to encourage people to stay and spend more time in Beverley, and to support initiatives which give visitors to the town a great experience.

Keynote speeches were given by Sir Gary Verity, chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire and Rick Bailey, chief executive of Thwaites, the company redeveloping the Beverley Arms.
