East Riding College health and social care tutor Bev Felgate was honoured at the recent Golden Apples Awards in Hull. Bev, who is from Tickton and has been teaching at the College for the last 12 years was a finalist for Inspirational Teacher/Lecturer of the Year. She was nominated by staff and students for her dedication to her students and outstanding performance as both a tutor and mentor.
Bev said, “I was honoured to represent East Riding College as a finalist – including the staff who are all extremely hardworking. I brought along some students as well a member of staff who I mentored to join in the celebrations. It was difficult to choose who to bring along as I have a good relationship with all of my students, but it was nice for me to share the experience with some of them, and it was nice for them too – they were really excited!”
Bev’s students clubbed together to buy her a present of a bracelet and some flowers before the awards to surprise her and congratulate her on getting to the finals. James Heathorn, aged 18 from Beverley attended the awards alongside Bev and said, “I think that the Golden Apple Awards is an incredible event because it brings together some of the biggest influences in a person’s life. Bev has certainly influenced me and my decisions over the last three years. She has pushed me to complete my work to a high standard and she is always there if you need someone to speak to. She is definitely one of the biggest and best influences on my life and I can only be thankful for that.”
