East Riding College students hit the top spots in maths, English and Apprenticeships

The national rankings released by the Department for Education also show that 16 to 18 year olds doing GCSE maths place the College in the top 7% nationally for high achievement (gaining A*-C grades), the best performance of any general further education college in Yorkshire and the Humber. 

In GCSE English, adult learners performed exceptionally well, again putting the College in the top 10% nationally for high grades (A*to C).

The College’s Assistant Principal Helen Wooldridge said, “We’re always very proud of our students’ achievements and these results in particular reflect all the hard work both students and staff put in to their GCSEs, which they study alongside their main subjects at college.  GCSE grades at A* to C, or their new equivalent grades 9-4 are important for the world of work, and to allow progression onto Apprenticeships and higher levels of study, including degrees.  By achieving their higher grade GCSEs with us our students are improving their employability and progression opportunities.”

The College also bucks the national trend for Apprenticeships, with a timely achievement rate in the top 10% nationally.  Timely achievement of Apprenticeships is a key measure of success, meaning that apprentices have completed their framework or standard early, or in the time allocated at the outset, which varies dependent on the job role and type of Apprenticeship.  Intermediate Apprenticeships typically take between 12 and 18 months to complete, whilst Advanced and Higher Apprenticeships can take from two to five years.
