East Riding College are celebrating again after having recently been awarded Gold status in NEBOSH’s Learning Partner Programme. NEBOSH is a leading global provider of health, safety, wellbeing and environmental qualifications. NEBOSH’s Learning Partner Programme is a new scheme which recognises accredited providers for their commitment to giving NEBOSH students the best learning experience possible.
This means that the employers we work with and industries we serve in the local area and beyond, have access to high-quality training opportunities for those staff working in occupational health and safety, to help improve well-being and safety in workplaces everywhere.
Health and safety is often seen by many as a rather ‘dry’ subject, so East Riding College is especially pleased to gain Gold NEBOSH status as it was evaluated against a set of criteria considered global best practice, which emphasises a student-centric and engaging approach. The criteria or ‘principles’ include providing appropriate course materials, employing qualified, knowledgeable and engaging tutors, and giving useful learner feedback and support. It was found that East Riding College greatly exceeded these principles and as a result we were awarded Gold learning partner status, joining a very exclusive club.
NEBOSH is internationally recognised as an organisation that helps raise professional standards in health and safety, making workplaces safer across the world. 87% of UK Health, Safety and Environment vacancies ask for NEBOSH qualifications as they help build the knowledge and skills which underpin competent performance as a health, safety and environmental professional.
NEBOSH student Bryan Price, Logistics Manager at British Steel recently provided feedback to tutors on the course saying, “My success is absolutely down to your excellent standard of instruction, and the way that you taught us. You taught us Health and Safety very thoroughly and you ensured that we understood it – you did not treat it as a cramming exercise, just to pass an exam. Consequently: even months later, I can still clearly visualise many of the examples and cases that you quoted, in order to bring a rather dry subject to life.”
NEBOSH and IOSH courses are the industry standard professional qualifications, and East Riding College is an accredited centre for both types of qualifications. It offers provision which ranges from one day introductory courses to level three certificates in occupational health and safety, fire safety, and risk management, including courses specifically tailored to the construction industry.
Its NEBOSH qualifications are delivered by industry experts and East Riding College students achieve exam pass rates of up to 92%, which is exceptional for this type of professional qualification.
