Hull residents can now learn maths for free at the KCOM Stadium
11th March 2020 4:36pm - Return to press releases

East Riding College has announced free maths courses running at Hull City’s home ground in March. Maths skills development courses will be held in the KCOM Stadium and some lessons will even take place in the home team’s changing rooms!
The course kicked off at the stadium on Thursday 5 March, but students can still join the course after that date, and sessions run from 1-4pm every Thursday during term time.
The skills development courses are for adults who want to improve their numeracy to help with everyday tasks. Using real world examples, the course brings maths to life for adults who may have struggled at school to gain a GCSE in the subject. The flexible sessions cover numbers, measurements and handling data, which is a good grounding for improving the maths you might use at work or in everyday life.
Kymm Johnson, Head of Curriculum at East Riding College said, “We’re so pleased to be able to work with Hull City Football Club to deliver this unique free training. The maths courses provide the ideal opportunity for adults to refresh their skills in a quirky, friendly and welcoming learning environment. We already offer improve your maths and English courses at community venues across the East Riding and I’m delighted our partnership with Hull City has afforded us the opportunity to bring our winning formula to Hull. The courses are flexible, so you can start any time after 5th March. I would encourage anyone interested to just give me a call, or give it a go by coming along to the Stadium to find out more. We don’t bite!
“Many parents are often prompted to brush up on their numeracy in order to help children with their homework and there are so many other advantages to building your confidence with numbers and data. This is a far cry from the dreaded ‘double maths’ at school, so it shouldn’t trigger any bad memories! It can make a real difference to people’s lives when they improve their numeracy, so to be able to bring our free maths offer to a new community like this - and to deliver it at such a unique venue - is something we’re really excited about.”
Anyone interested should call Kymm on 0345 120 0044.
The College is an official education partner of Hull City Football Club and its approved apprenticeship provider.
Paul Fielder, Commercial Sales Manager at Hull City said, “We’re pleased to be working with East Riding College as our education partner on this initiative. Part of the Club’s ethos is to give back to the community and this kind of provision makes all the difference to people right on our doorstep. We hope people take advantage of the free courses on offer, and look forward to welcoming them to the Stadium.”
