East Riding College Fashion makes is debut at York Fashion Week

On bank holiday Monday seven fashion students from East Riding College were lucky enough to have their work shown on the Student & Graduate Runway Show at the Malmaison hotel in York. Our students work was exhibited alongside some independent designers and students from across the UK.  The show is intended to showcase grassroots designers of the future and featured the stand out collections and pieces from the UK’s newest designers.

York Fashion Week is billed as the ultimate celebration of fashion and involves a week of runways shows, workshops and installations.  Re-emerging after a break due to the pandemic, the event offers a stage for the region’s creative and industry talent to showcase their work and provides a platform for young designers in the region.

It's a glamourous event attracting fashionistas and a slew of luxury brands to descend on the city to join the style showcase.

York Fashion Week was certainly a big hit with the students and they enjoyed various exhibitions and talks with inspirational speakers as well as showcasing their own pieces in the runway show.

Beth Jacob, fashion tutor at the college said:

“It was fantastic that York Fashion Week asked us to be involved, and it’s great that they would like to work with us again on an even bigger show for the fall fashion week in October.  The students relished the opportunity to show their work and network with some interesting industry contacts.

“It went so well that one of our students actually received some commissions for some of her pieces from various attendees at the show.  It’s an amazing opportunity for our students as they start to experience the reality of entering the fashion industry and working as professional fashion designers themselves.  Their talent shone through and I am so proud of them.”
