Course contents

The Level 2 Autocare Technician Apprenticeship is designed to equip learners with the knowledge, practical skills and professional behaviours required to work within the automotive service and repair industry. Apprentices develop an understanding of health and safety procedures, workshop practices and the correct use of tools and equipment while learning how to carry out routine vehicle maintenance and inspections. The course covers essential areas including servicing procedures, tyres and wheel alignment, braking systems, steering and suspension, engine systems and basic electrical diagnostics. Learners gain hands-on experience in a workshop environment, allowing them to safely complete tasks such as oil and filter changes, brake replacement, tyre fitting and battery testing while following manufacturer specifications and industry standards.

Throughout the apprenticeship, learners also develop skills in customer service, workplace communication and diagnostic fault-finding using modern vehicle diagnostic equipment. Apprentices learn how to identify and report vehicle faults, interpret diagnostic information and complete service documentation accurately and professionally. The programme combines practical training, classroom-based theory and workplace experience to prepare learners for End Point Assessment (EPA) and employment within the automotive industry.
