Children from New Pasture Lane Primary learn the skills of the modern building trade.

The staff of New Pasture Lane Primary School invited the construction department at East Riding College to give a demonstration to their 3-5 year olds about modern skills of building.

Mrs Catherine Johnson and Mrs Alison Scott, Foundation Stage Teachers at the School has recently been teaching the topic of buildings including different kinds of construction materials under the subject of patterns in their environment. Alison said "I wanted to make this subject very practical for the children and the College were very pleased to be able to help us. All the children were given the opportunity to lay bricks, work with trowels and listen to the tutors talking about aspects of construction. It worked brilliantly when combined with the teaching I had already done in class".

Construction Tutor Ken Shaw said "the children thoroughly enjoyed their experience to such an extent that they will be visiting our construction department at Carnaby to learn some more".

East Riding College is always keen to participate with local schools to enhance young peoples learning.
